AniSound AC/DC/DCC Decoder

AniSound AC/DC/DCC Decoder

Download User Guide (Version 10/20/24)

AniSound plays any selected audio files when triggered by a motion/magnetic switch, pushbutton, or DCC command - even DCC functions sent to other locos!  AniSound can be mounted under the layout, in a structure or in rolling stock (larger HO boxcar - with the "no terminals" purchase option).

The AniSound AC/DC/DCC circuit/decoder plays thousands of MP3 sound files to a 3 watt speaker (not included) and/or stereo mini plug (e.g. computer speakers). The circuit is powered either from DCC, 12VDC, 12VAC, 9V battery or anything in between. The sound files are stored on an included SD Card (1GB or ~3 hours of sound) pre-loaded with many sound effects (see examples below) however users can eject the SD card, place in their computer and replace/add sound files with MP3 files of their choice and use SD cards of up to 32GB.

For AC/DC users… When any of 5 terminal inputs are pulsed to GND (via user switch or event), a corresponding MP3 file is played. There is also a terminal to stop the active MP3 from playing. Volume can be changed with the AniSound pushbutton.  All this also works for DCC users.

DCC commands can play or loop MP3 files, set volume, stop, etc. just like a CD/MP3 player.  AniSound talks to the user (in selectable voices) confirming commands, giving options and declaring errors then the voice can be turned off for layout operations.

AniSound has a purchase option without the three terminals for users who prefer soldered connections and/or want to better fit AniSound into rolling stock enabling authentic recorded train/nature/industry sounds.

There is also purchase options for 1) a SD Card adapter for users with a computer SD slot, 2) a SD Card adapter for users with USB 2.0 and 3) a heat sink to slip on AniSounds voltage regulator when +12V or higher is used for input.  A computer is needed to move desired sound files into folder 1 tracks 1-5 for terminal activation.

The sound is 24 -bit DAC output with a dynamic range of 90dB, SNR support 85dB and supports FAT16, and FAT32 file system.

Below are Port day and night sounds.  The free software, Audacity  was used to mix a transition sound that fades out night sound and fades in day sounds to create the "Night to Day" sounds.  Olympic Logging auto triggers these sound effects as the fast time clock software determines sunrise and sunset for the given date, time and latitude/longitude for the layout location:

     Port Night

     Port Night to Day

     Port Day

     Quitting Horn over Port Day

How about an old steam sawmill?  One of these files is the sawmill startup sounds.  The other can be looped (0:00 to 2:15) until the sawmill is powered down for the night - then just let it complete.
